History, archaeology and anthropology: resurrection from the past

The resurrection of the 80’s movie character Indiana Jones has caused many youngsters to go to movie rental outlets, and look for what their parents were watching back then; it will certainly create a new wave of students in these areas:

  • History
  • Archaeology
  • Anthropology

Students who are eager to go on an expedition and find a treasure for themselves, just like Indiana Jones or maybe even Jack Sparrow, will certainly find themselves attracted to any of these careers. However it is important that the student who is willing to take on any of them understands that these careers have subdivisions; human history is too extensive to be studied as a whole, therefore, it is divided into National, Universal, Religious and so forth.

The same applies to Archaeology and Anthropology, with additional choices, land or sea. Thus, Jack Sparrow. Men have gone on expeditions seeking sunken ships for generations, and many of them have been able to find a ship or maybe even two, in most cases, they were just flukes; modern day sailors who are looking for sunken ships rely on marine archaeology to guide them according to ancient navigation paths.

Yet, parents need to be aware that if their child chooses any of these careers for that particular purpose, he or she will need to have a healthy financial support, since they require scholar trips and long stays abroad.
